St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights(SPIRHR) had the delight to welcome in two new fellows for the Family planning and Reproductive Health program at SPHMMC this past month.
Dr. Brigitte Irankunda an obstetrician and gynecologist from Rwanda who has more than five years work experience. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Medicine and Surgery from University of Rwanda since 2015 and has her Ob/Gyn speciality from the same university in 2021. Dr Brigitte has also taken relevant courses such as permanent family planning methods, X-ray readings, Cervical cancer screening and treatment, PPH recognition and treatment, which allowed her to gain extensive experience in diagnosing various gynecological conditions. Brigitte has participated in review of the Ob/Gyn Postgraduate curriculum(at UR), lecturing at University of Global Health Equity and she participated in research in Knowledge and Perception on the new abortion law in Rwanda: Health professionals and client’s perspective”.
Dr Zerihun Beyene a well seasoned obstetrician and gynecologist with more than five years of experience. Dr Zerihun did his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Gondar and continued to pursue graduate studies at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College where he got his specialty certificate in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr Zerihun has served at hospitals in the Somali region of Ethiopia and Jinka as an Ob/Gyn for more than three years but most notably at Tseday Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic as both a clinician and a medical director. Both fellows have shown extensive medical knowledge and experience across their careers through provision of healthcare consultation & services to women of all ages and they are both passionate about improving the service and accessibility of SRH services. SPIRHR also had a farewell for Dr Hana who went to University of Michigan where she will be involved in experience sharing on research and guideline development as part of the fellowship training program.
