St. Paul’s Institute of Reproductive Health and Rights (SPIRHR) in collaboration with the department of Ob-Gyn at SPHMMC has developed inhouse and launched the “Ethiopian Pregnancy Calendar” App. The app will serve as an important provider job aid with many important features which include
- Calculating gestational age and EDD from LNMP, from ultrasound, from date of embryo transfer and conception date (for intrauterine insemination)
- Providing the dates for a given pregnancy specific investigation such as for Ultrasound Nuchal translucency, anatomic scanning, OGTT when indicated
- Providing the dates for a given pregnancy for specific interventions such as for low dose aspirin and anti D administration
- It has St. Paul’s protocol for medication abortion under various scenarios like gestational age and uterine scar
- Informing dates for elective cesarean section, EDD, postterm
- Assisting Bishop score calculation
- Providing ANC schedule dates using the national ANC
The app makes date calculation easier for Ethiopian Healthcare providers because it has the Ethiopian calendar integrated in it along with the Gregorian Calendar.
At the launch event held at St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology on April 26, 2024 invited guests praised the development of the app at such a crucial time. The guests also commended the ease of use of the app and the various features of the app.
During the launch event the developer of the app Dr Biruk Abebe was also given recognition for his role in developing the app and supporting the health information technology infrastructure of SPHMMC.
