St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), in collaboration with St. Paul Institute in Reproductive Health and Rights(SPIRHR), officially inaugurated its Center of Excellence for Reproductive Health in a newly completed B+G+4 facility on September 7, 2025.

The event brought together esteemed guests, dignitaries, and key figures from the healthcare, academic, and policy sectors. Among the distinguished attendees were Her Excellency Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health of Ethiopia, along with three State Ministers, Dr. Dereje Duguma, Searela Abdulahi, and Frehiwot Abebe. The inauguration was also graced by Professor Senait Fisseha , Dr. Muluken Tesfaye, Chief Executive Director of SPHMMC, Professor Delayehu Bekele, Director of the St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights (SPIRHR), as well as leaders from the sub-city administration and delegates from several partner institutions.

The newly inaugurated building, constructed through years of dedication and partnership, is a facility designed to transform the delivery of reproductive healthcare in Ethiopia. It houses outpatient and inpatient units, a GBV one-stop center, a cervical cancer pre-screening unit, a pharmacy, laboratory services, operating theaters, a modern simulation lab, debriefing rooms, call center, training and conference halls, and a research core lab, making it one of the most comprehensive reproductive health facilities in the country.

Speakers at the ceremony reflected on the remarkable transformation of the Michu Clinic, which began as a small service unit and has now grown into a national Center of Excellence. They emphasized the importance of this facility in providing women-centered, accessible, and quality reproductive health services, as well as its role in shaping the future of medical training and research in Ethiopia.

As the Center of Excellence for Reproductive Health begins its journey, SPIRHR calls upon stakeholders, policymakers, partners, and the wider community to collaborate in sustaining this vision. Together, we can ensure that every woman in Ethiopia has access to safe, high-quality, and dignified reproductive healthcare services.
