While a growing number of women are enrolling in universities, many opt-out at the highest levels required for a research career. According to a UNESCO report, women make up only 8% of researchers in Ethiopia.

Recognizing the role that women have played in research and the opportunities that lie in making women front runners in academia, SPIRHR has organised a panel discussion titled “Women in Research”. The panel discussion, which was held at the Golden Tulip Hotel on June 16th,2022, hosted physicians and scientists from SPHMMC and Armauer Hansen Research Institute.

The session provided an excellent platform for sharing insights and strategies for engaging more women in research. The event also attracted a wide range of audiences including medical students and early career researchers. Panelists discussed the role of women in research sharing their personal struggles and how challenges can be addressed through training programs, mentorship opportunities, and skill sharing.
