The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC), with the support of the St. Paul Institute for Reproductive Health and Rights (SPIRHR), has launched a Male Engagement in Family Planning program. This initiative aims to enhance the involvement of men in family planning decisions and services, promoting a more inclusive approach to reproductive health.

The program kicked off with a successful sensitization session on vasectomy for faculty members and residents. This session was designed to raise awareness and provide essential information about vasectomy as a family planning option. Dr. Aschalew Seyoum, a seasoned expert with over three decades of experience in vasectomy counseling and procedures, led the training. His extensive knowledge and practical insights were invaluable to the participants.

The program will offer comprehensive vasectomy counseling and training for residents, midwives, and faculty members. This training is expected to equip healthcare providers with the skills and confidence needed to offer vasectomy services effectively. As part of this initiative, Michu Clinic at SPHMMC will now provide vasectomy services to clients, making it more accessible for men to participate in family planning.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in promoting gender equality in reproductive health and ensuring that men are actively involved in family planning decisions. By providing education and services, SPIRHR and SPHMMC are working towards a future where family planning is a shared responsibility, benefiting the health and well-being of entire communities.
